About

Hi there!

My name is Mel. I'm a twenty something ocean lover and animal advocate. I'm passionate about informal science education and enjoy going on outdoor adventures, doing arts and crafts, and like eating Mac' N Cheese.

I have over 10 years of experience working with youth in many different settings. The past 4 years have been incredibly rewarding as I have gained increasingly responsible experience in informal science education in multiple zoos, aquariums and science museum settings.

I have gained extensive knowledge of informal education by completing an Informal Learning in Museums Professional Certificate. That innovative program immersed myself and many other museum, zoo, aquarium and science outreach professionals and volunteers in informal and free-choice learning theories. I had the opportunity to work with some of the field’s leading researchers and learned how to apply informal learning environments theories in real-world educational settings such as my work places.

I am currently a part-time Educator and a part-time Education Coordinator in multiple zoo/aquariums in the beautiful Pacific Northwest.

My ultimate dream is to share my program and curriculum development skills, passion and creativity with everyone with the hopes of inspiring people of all ages, backgrounds and abilities to care about and conserve our ocean.

By the way, just in case you were wondering, my favorite ocean animal is the shark although it changes on a day to day basis ;)
